So What's this Nutrition all About?
You only have to look around you to see it’s a crazy, fast-paced world we are living in. In the UK, the last 50 or so years have seen some changes to our diets and lifestyles, the like of which has never happened before. As a nation, we are making nutrition choices which are more for convenience than for health and as we try to fit everything into our busy lives, we are suffering the effects of chronic stress. Four out of five people complain they don’t get a restful night’s sleep and technology is ensuring that many of us are the most sedentary we have ever been as a species. In order to keep us going, many of us reach for stimulants such as caffeine, sugar, alcohol and tobacco, only to find them a temporary solution. All these factors can lead to low energy and fatigue, poor concentration, weight gain and lowered immunity. We are also seeing a huge rise in many chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart diseases and gastrointestinal disorders such as IBS, Crohns and ulcerative colitis.
So what can we do to combat modern life? The good news is
that we have the tools at our fingertips to help make a positive impact on our own
health!
Nutritional Therapy is a science based therapeutic tool
using food to help support health and wellbeing. Naturopathic nutrition takes
this a step further applying this knowledge within a framework of beliefs,
including the belief that the body has an inherent ability to heal itself when
given appropriate nutrition and care.
It offers a balanced, holistic approach to the prevention and
management of health and disease, seeking and addressing the root cause of the
problem rather than treating just the symptoms.
As a naturopathic nutritionist, we also recognise that
everyone is different and that means that our nutritional needs are different
depending on many things such as what stage of life we are at, and what health
issues have arisen. This is why we offer a personalised nutrition plan, which
is designed with a specific person’s need in mind.
